Clayton Appalachia Celebrates Tennessee Green Star Partnership
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) recently welcomed Clayton® Appalachia as the newest member of the Tennessee Green Star Partnership. This honor reflects Clayton Appalachia's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Clayton Appalachia was presented with a ceremonial plaque in a recent celebration attended by Clayton Home Building Group® Vice President of Sustainability William Jenkins and Anderson County Mayor Terry Frank, among other enterprise and state leaders.

"We are proud to have Clayton Appalachia recognized through the Tennessee Green Star Partnership," said Jenkins. "This achievement reflects the team's commitment to environmental stewardship, operational excellence and continuous improvement in our operations. The recognition is another great example of how our teams enact Clayton's vision of building a better tomorrow."
The celebration highlighted many of Clayton Appalachia's notable achievements. In addition to its ISO 14001 certification, the home building facility increased its recycled materials 563% between 2021 and 2025 and diverted 2,067 tons of landfill waste last year.
Clayton Appalachia managed significant gains in its landfill waste diversion program, rising from 11% in April 2024 to 39% in April 2025. The facility also increased its focus on reducing natural resource consumption by decreasing electrical usage by 5% and water consumption by 25%.
Team members lessened water consumption, in part, by recycling the water used during plumbing testing on modern manufactured homes. Clayton Appalachia expanded its recycling efforts by identifying new partnerships with dedicated recyclers of key materials, including drywall, wood, plastics and metals.
"Clayton Appalachia team members are at the heart of this recognition," said Lisa Lujan, who oversees Clayton Appalachia's sustainability efforts as Environmental Health and Safety Manager. "Their commitment contributes to our recycling and waste diversion outcomes and directly reflects Clayton's value to Drive change by setting the standard for sustainability."

Clayton Appalachia is the seventh Clayton Home Building Group facility to be recognized as a Tennessee Green Star Partner. It joins Clayton Morristown Lux® Doors, Clayton Bean Station, Clayton Giles, Clayton Rutledge, Clayton Savannah and TRU® White Pine.
"It takes high standards to earn partnership in this program, and Clayton Appalachia certainly has them," said TDEC Commissioner David Salyers. "The company's commitment to environmental sustainability goes above and beyond what would be expected, and we're proud to have it as a new member."
